About Warnborough

FROM THE VERY BEGINNING

The Warnborough distance learning programmes developed in 1995 from a tradition started by Warnborough College, UK. Warnborough College, UK was founded in the city of Oxford in 1973 with considerable support from educators in America and the United Kingdom. Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher sent her warmest wishes for a successful future.

Warnborough College, UK focused primarily on Study Abroad opportunities for American students, but soon expanded its repertoire of courses and with that, its student population diversity.

In 1995, various distance learning hybrid options were trialed with great success. A new charter was drafted, and plans were laid for a new institution that would make distance learning a primary focus.

WARNBOROUGH COLLEGE, IRELAND

Warnborough College Ireland was established in Ireland in 1997. The philosophy behind this institution was to offer quality degree programmes by distance learning.

This philosophy was about bringing education to students, not the other way around. A new model of educational delivery was created and the burgeoning of the Internet contributed immensely. Email and webpages in their commercial infancy became a new type of enabler for education - reaching people in geographically-challenging areas and those who could not afford or who were not able to leave where they were in order to pursue an education.

The new Irish College ensured that the Warnborough ethos of putting students first was made a priority. The Socratic method of one-to-one learning utilised by the College in the UK transferred easily into the new online mode.

Distance education is now not only a viable, but a valuable mode of learning.
