New Unique Erasmus+ Project
The DEVISE4KE project comprises 7 key partners and a raft of important associate partners. The aim of the project is to use photovoltaics in an underdeveloped area of Homa Bay, Kenya for schools to have electricity. The partners would bring in low-energy devices and teach digital skills to both teachers and students.
Pre-Kickoff
Prior to the official start, a pre-kickoff meeting was held in Canterbury in early December 2023 with the European partner institutions (the University of Bremen, Warnborough College Ireland, and St José Maristak Durango) defining the framework of engagement clearly.
Hands-On in Kenya
On the 8th of January, a team from Rongo University and the University of Bremen (see photo) visited the three participating secondary schools to do a site inspection. The aim of the site visits was to determine the requirements for the upcoming installation of photovoltaic and IT equipment.
Many schools lack electrical installations, power supply and the necessary teacher skills and training to deal with the challenges of the newly-implemented competence-based curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.
Kickoff Meeting at Rongo University
The project officially kicked off with meetings between all partners on the 9th and 10th of January. Representatives and work package leaders introduced their organisations, presented on the project milestones, and discussed timeframes and responsibilities.
Warnborough College Ireland is leading on the work package to train-the-trainers on digital teaching and learning. We are thoroughly excited about the scope and imagination of this project and its ability to transform the lives of many people in the Homa Bay region.
