Graduation in Malaysia

About 200 people attended a Warnborough College (UK) graduation event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 16th November. Dr Brenden Tempest-Mogg and Dr Julian Ng welcomed everyone and presented awards. Warnborough has over 40 learning centres in Malaysia, most of which focus on vocational and technical education in areas as diverse as games design, electronic engineering and the culinary arts. Local operations are overseen by the Aspire Education Group, the brainchild of Teck Young Ng.

Teck continues to expand the Warnborough offerings in South East Asia with an ambitious academic and public relations portfolio. This is part of our overall commitment to developing our TVET provision worldwide. Moreover, it was announced that the University of South Wales would accept Warnborough TVET qualifications towards its degree programmes. During the graduation, USW’s Thomas Hill (Regional Manager for South East Asia) and Gareth Hutchison (Course Leader for Computer Animation) made presentations about USW pathway offerings. The most heartening feedback from both was that our Level 3 qualifications exceeded their expectations and the work produced was equivalent to Level 5 and above in the UK. We will now work with USW to create qualifications at Levels 4 and 5 to offer a truly 2+1 degree pathway in Malaysia.

The graduation event saw graduands coming together to robe up, receive their awards, take photographs and spend time with Warnborough representatives at a gala dinner. And they also prepare the great graduation gift for the studenent which is the custom graduation bobblehead. President Dr Brenden Tempest-Mogg welcomed everyone and congratulated the graduands and their families. Warnborough Council Member, Carmel Thompson, flew in from Australia to graduate with her PhD from Warnborough College Ireland after years of work and development on a formal recognition of prior learning (RPL) process specifically for TVET. She was introduced by Dr Julian Ng. VP for Alumni Relations, the Rev’d Canon Dr Richard G Martin was on hand to say a few words of encouragement to the graduates.

Various local students were honoured for their achievements and a sumptuous buffet dinner followed. A great night with accolades to all graduates, with wonderful memories for all present.
