Art as Legacy
From 10-12 July, our annual Kent Arts Conference was held at the Historic Dockyard Chatham, hosted by the University of Kent’s School of Arts. Organised by the Warnborough Foundation and Warnborough College Ireland, each year features a unique theme. The theme for 2024 was ‘Art as Legacy’. Presenters hailed from as far away as Albania, Argentina, Ghana, India, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine, and the USA.
Art Competition and Exhibitions
Events kicked off on 9 July with our new initiative, the Creative Art Examination Board (CAEB) exhibition of over 500 entries of children’s artwork from around the world, including countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. Some of the children came with their families for the awards presentation.
On the same evening, the schools art competition organised in conjunction with KArtsCon entries which were exhibited at the Sunlight Development Trust. Medway Mayor Cllr Marian Nestorov presented prizes to the winners, which this year included students from a special needs school.
The Art Conference Days
The arts conference began properly on 10 July with an opening presentation by a founder of the Stuckism movement, Bill Lewis. The day continued with a host of interesting presentations all around the topics of art and legacy, with a panel discussion at the end around the topic of Creative Health.
Day 2 continued in a similar fashion with workshops and presentations involving sound, dance and handicrafts.
Day 3 featured exclusive performances including by Nekomaru Okita from Okinawa, Japan, Danielle Williams, and Nadia Perrotta.
