Agora University
President Dr Brenden Tempest-Mogg and Vice-President Dr Julian Ng were in Romania in July to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Agora University in Oradea, Romania. The introduction was made by Warnborough alum, Dr Urs Hauenstein, who is a Visiting Professor at Agora.
The founder of Agora, Prof Dr Misu-Jan Manolescu, received the Warnborough delegates warmly. Some ideas were discussed for cooperation, and these will be fleshed out and revealed over the coming months.
As a gesture of good faith for the new partnership, Dr Hauenstein and Dr Ng delivered a lecture each under the theme of ‘Responsive and Responsible Leadership’ on 17 July 2019. Dr Hauenstein’s lecture focused on ethical leadership principles while Dr Ng talked about the concept of servant leadership. The lectures were free of charge and open to Agora students, alumni and the general public.
Oradea is an up-and-coming city in Transylvania, and home to fast-growing industries and a motivated young population. There are many possibilities for cooperation and the agreement with Agora comes on the heels of a partnership with Edubiz, an organisation focused on the enablement of youths in Oradea.
Edubiz Romania
As part of Warnborough College’s outreach and humanitarian initiative, Vice-President Dr Julian Ng ran an intensive bootcamp on startups with our new Romanian partner, Edubiz. Entitled ‘Passion to Action‘, the bootcamp was created for a select group of youths whose ages ranged from 15 to 21.
During the 2 days, participants learnt important startup concepts, engaged in teambuilding activities and games, and brainstormed ideas for possible startups. Formed into groups, they had to do a formal pitch for their businesses. As part of the outreach initiative, Warnborough will be investing as the ‘business angel’ in ideas that have merit, which have good business plans.
An agreement was signed between Warnborough president Dr Brenden Tempest-Mogg and Edubiz founder and director, Teodora Chifor.
University of Oradea
Warnborough first began working with the University of Oradea through a mutual ERASMUS+ application. The relationship was forged in a short period of time as the application’s deadlines meant little time for niceties but hard work. We are pleased to be continuing the relationship through potential joint projects, and the trip to Oradea in July provided a good opportunity to meet with and congratulate the new University President of the Senate, Prof. Relu Caus.
