Dr Julian Ng was invited by our partners, Skillman.eu, to attend the 2019 Skillman International Forum (SIF) in Florence, Italy. The event took place at the historic da Basso Fortress during the Italy DIDACTA Education Fair, from 10th to 11th October.
SIF is organised by CSCS, and the head of CSCS is Dr Giovanni Crisona, who is very passionate about the Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) philosophy and concept.
Dr Julian Ng spoke about IVETA and its role in promoting and support Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) around the world, as well as the partnership with Skillman on the Skillnet project to build strong partnerships among TVET providers and stakeholders.
Prof. Rupert Maclean, the UNESCO Chair on TVET and Sustainability, gave a very interesting topic about how and where TVET is headed – move over Industry 4.0, hello Automation 5.0.
Marieke Vandeweyer, a Labour Market Economist at the OECD, spoke about the need to adapt skills for the market.
All in all, there were 55 intensive different sessions over 2 days, and many speakers of great calibre were present to share their expertise and experience.
Dr Julian was involved as a speaker during the workshop on the Early School Leaving Toolkit developed by Cedefop. Chaired by Dr Irene Psifidou of Cedefop, the Toolkit aims to address the problems of individuals who have left school early, and who may not be in employment or education.
A gala dinner was held at the historic Hotel Brunelleschi, which was built over ancient Roman foundations. The hotel even boasted its own museum in the basement showing collections of Roman pottery, jewellery and building foundations.
Warnborough College and IVETA look forward to working with Skillman on the Skillnet project. Stay tuned for more in the coming months.
